Best-selling Canadian author, Maggie O'Brien is an Irish Canadian who comes from a long line of storytellers. In the late eighties she started working for CBC radio and eventually became the Morning Show producer in Newfoundland. After working on documentaries for Morningside, The Entertainers, and Ideas at CBC, Maggie discovered that she loved the whole process of story telling. When Fineday Publishers suggested that she write a children's book about a Newfoundland dog and a Labrador puppy, she fell in love with the idea. Thus the story of Hero, a brave and resourceful pooch, and his cousin Maggie were born! This first book, Maggie and Hero, became a Canadian best-seller, which was followed by Star's Island, a story about the friendship between a curious pony and a friendly seagull.

Maggie is a dual citizen of Ireland and Canada and has spent her time travelling between Cork and Toronto. She especially loves visiting Ireland, as upon arrival she reverts to the mindset of a 12 year old, and therefore finds it easier to write science fiction fantasy for young adults, which is her forte. Maggie feels that she reinvents herself approximately every 7 years, she started out as a registered nurse, became a radio producer, tried her hand as a television director, and finally became an author. Presently, she lives in Toronto and visits Newfoundland regularly which she says, "is like Ireland but without relatives." At the moment, Maggie is in the middle of a painful rewrite of a Science Fiction Fantasy novel for young-adults.

In Toronto, Maggie lives with her two cats Bella and Chella.
